Kathmandu, Sept. 19: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Banskota, has made it clear that it would be impossible to implement the projects which fail to issue tender notice my mid October. At such case, the budget would be held back by the government and used in other headings, he warned.
During the two monthly review meeting of the Ministry and its subordinate bodies for the current fiscal year on Wednesday, Minister Banskota stressed, “Projects must be finished within time. If the activities mentioned in the performance contract are not carried out, the responsible persons would face action,” he stressed.
He directed the Ministry officials to hold discussions with the institutions working in the sector of mass media and journalism on media council bill before it is forwarded to the Council of Ministers. The bill has been sent to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for building consensus.
He directed Nepal Telecom to manage its staffs properly because most of the staffs were concentrated in the Kathmandu Valley, while the districts outside were facing human resource crunch. Even Nepal Telecommunications Authority was directed for its monitoring.
On the occasion, Ministry Secretary Mahendra Man Gurung also reiterated that government had to accomplish the works in time.
It was informed at the meeting that in the past two months of the current fiscal year, Ministry had sent a proposal on implementation of digital Nepal framework; prepared the process of electronic signature for e-payment; finished 45 percent works under the internet connection at community schools; and preparation were underway to issue directive for the establishment of national knowledge park at Khumaltar, Lalitpur.
Similarly, land for the establishment of data centre at Banke and Itahari were identified; land use policy was sent to the Law Ministry for consensus; and process for the journalists’ accident insurance, public welfare advertisement and introduction of social security programme in film sector was on.
The meeting was attended by the chiefs and representatives of the subordinate bodies under the Ministry.
