Minister Karki stresses reach of Gorkhapatra in western districts

Nepalgunj, Mar. 14: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the publication of the Kohalpur edition of the Gorkhapatra would help the people of all districts of western Nepal have their access to the government.
Minister Karki made these remarks during his inspection visit of the Gorkhapatra Press at Mautahawa, Kohalpur, on Sunday.

He said that the attention of the ministry has been drawn to equip and facilitate Gorkhapatra well. He said that even though it is a big challenge to make Gorkhapatra available in the hilly and mountainous districts of the west, he was confident that the newspaper would reach all these regions soon. He said everyone working in the Gorkhapatra has a responsibility to make its publications people’s publications.

Minister Karki also inquired about the details of the press and other infrastructures being built there.
Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, Joint Secretaries of the Ministry Uttar Kumar Khatri and Binod Prakash Singh and Executive Director of the National Information Centre Sunil Poudel, Deputy Chief of Kohalpur Municipality Sanju Kumari Chaudhary and President of Nepali Congress Banke Narayan Gaudel were present during the inspection.

Earlier, Tara Basyal, head of Gorkhapatra Sansthan Kohalpur office, had apprised the team of Minister Karki of the infrastructure being built there including the printing press and distribution of magazines. He drew the attention of the Minister stating that there was a lack of manpower in the office.
Similarly, Minister Karki also inspected the Regional Broadcasting Centre of Nepal Television at Kohalpur. On the occasion, he was briefed in detail by the head of the broadcasting centre, Vijay Barma.

Speaking at the programme organised at the Broadcasting Centre, Minister Karki said that the government was taking various measures to make the government media modern and well-equipped. He said that the government media should win the hearts of the people.
Earlier today, Minister Karki had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the building of the data centre also at Kohalpur.

Speaking after the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister Karki said that this is the age of information and technology. He said that a data centre was being set up in Kohalpur to store information as the use of information technology is increasing in all sectors including public and private.

He said that this would be the first data centre to be set up outside Bagmati province, adding that the government has a policy to build data centres in all seven provinces.
Stating that the government had succeeded in instilling hope and trust in the Nepali people in a short period of time, he said that various works have started for the rule of law and economic development.

Meanwhile, speaking at a function organised by Press Union Banke in Nepalgunj, Minister Karki said that the government has placed special emphasis on the timely completion of the MCC project. He said that if the project is completed on time, the confidence of the donor countries and agencies would increase and many more development projects could be launched in future.
He said the MCC project, which has been implemented in 46 countries around the world, has brought about a lot of economic changes in those countries and no US troops have been deployed in any of those countries.

Stating that MCC will prove to be a cornerstone in Nepal’s hydropower projects and road expansion, he said that the government will now start its implementation.
In another context, Minister Karki said that the present coalition government formed to safeguard the Constitution has been doing important works for political stability and economic development in a short period of time.
