Nepalgunj, Mar. 13: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the local level elections will be held on the slated date.
Addressing a meeting of the party workers at the Banke office of the Nepali Congress Saturday evening, Minister Karki urged the party activists not to doubt local elections as the election date had already been announced.

“The current government led by the Nepali Congress will hold all the local level elections on the announced date,” he said, adding that the government would hold all three-tier elections—local level, Provincial Assembly and the Federal Parliament.

He also said, “The present ruling coalition formed to safeguard the Constitution under special circumstances will continue till the three-tier elections are held, and discussions are underway to form an election alliance.”

Recalling late party leader Sushil Koirala, Minister Karki clarified that the ruling coalition should be formed as the NC has the responsibility to safeguard the historic constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly under the leadership of late Koirala.

He also claimed that the coalition government had done remarkable works in a short time to save the constitution and democracy as well as to fulfill the people’s aspirations.
Minister Karki said, “The US funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project, which is considered very important for poverty alleviation and economic development of the country, has been endorsed by the sovereign parliament of the Nepali people through consensus and its results will be visible within five years.”

Stating that the MCC Compact was purely an economic project, Minister Karki said the people have understood the truth despite misconceptions and the propaganda spread against the MCC.
“The government is now heading towards fulfilling the challenge of making the people economically prosperous.”

Stating that only after the victory of the united Nepali Congress in the election will the aspirations of the Nepali people be fulfilled, Minister Karki instructed the party cadres to work hard to ensure the victory of the Nepali Congress in the upcoming elections.
