Govt recommends envoys to India, United States, UK

Kathmandu, Oct. 29: The government Thursday recommended three persons for their appointment as ambassadors to India, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
The recommendations came on the eve of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s visit to Glasgow, Scotland.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Singha Durbar this afternoon took the decision to this effect.

Speaking at a press conference organised to make the Cabinet decisions public at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that Dr. Shankar Sharma has been recommended as ambassador to India, Gyan Chandra Acharya to the United Kingdom and Prof. Shreedhar Khatri to the USA.
The recommended names have to be certified by President Bidya Devi Bhandari and have to be endorsed through parliamentary hearing.

Khatri, a professor of political science, is a foreign affairs expert, while Sharma is a former Nepali ambassador to the United States.
Similarly, Acharya, who was appointed Permanent Representative
to the United Nations from the Foreign Service, had retired from the service by working as UN Under-Secretary-General.

Earlier, Acharya served as an economic advisor when Deuba was the Prime Minister in 2017.
Prime Minister Deuba is leaving for Glasgow of Scotland on Friday, leading a Nepali delegation to the 26th World Leaders Summit of the United Nations Framework and 26th session of the Conference of Parties (COP-26) to be held in Glasgow from November 1 and 2.

Similarly, the Cabinet meeting has announced a relief package to paddy farmers affected by the recent post-monsoon rains.
Minister Karki said that it has been decided to compensate 65 per cent of the damages of the farmers having paddy farmland of up to 10 katthas, 30 per cent for paddy planted up to 3 bigahas of land, and 20 per cent to farmers having more than 3 bigahas of paddy farmland. They will be wcompensated with the government-announced minimum price of the paddy, Minister Karki said.

Furthermore, the government has decided to provide relief amount of Rs. 200,000 per family to the families of those who went missing due to floods and inundation in the recent post-monsoon mayhem.
The government has already decided to provide Rs. 200,000 to the families of those killed in floods and inundation and an additional Rs. 100,000 per person if more than one person has died in the same family.
Similarly, the Cabinet meeting held today endorsed India visit of the Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) General Prabhuram Sharma. General Sharma is scheduled to pay a visit to India from November 9 to 12.
According to the Nepali Army, CoAS Sharma is scheduled to visit India at the formal invitation of his counterpart, the Indian Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane.

During his visit, he will be conferred with the honorary title of the Indian Army Chief General by the President of India.
Similarly, the Cabinet meeting promoted two Gazetted First Class Deputy Auditor Generals to the special class. The promoted Deputy Auditor Generals include Maheshwar Kafle and Bamdev Adhikari.
A meeting of the promotion recommendation committee held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Public Service Commission Chairman Madhav Prasad Regmi had recommended their names. The Cabinet meeting has also promoted Major General Saroj Pratap Rana to the rank of Lieutenant General, the three-star general of the Nepali Army.

Likewise, the Cabinet meeting decided to sign a statement on green energy and allow the use of forest area for the construction of the first phase of the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Project.
Minister Karki informed that the meeting also decided to approve the long-term zero emission strategy, National Adaptation Plan and climate change and its impact report.
