Kathmandu, Sept. 7: The number of COVID-19 cases in Nepal continues to surge with high number of daily cases over the recent weeks while restriction orders are in place across dozens of districts, including the Kathmandu Valley as part of government’s efforts to control the spread of the virus.
People from various walks of life have been complaining that the lockdown and restrictions were only the option for some period of time to manage the spread of COVID-19.
The government should have managed this time for case investigation and contact tracing, recruiting adequate health workers and easing health facilities, including isolation centres among others.
Dr. Rabindra Pandey, a public health expert, has urged the government to end the lockdown or restriction order, help increase employment, and provide alternatives to the owners of small businesses.
“We, the citizens should also follow all health safety precautions, mandatorily wear masks properly while heading out of home, maintain proper social and physical distance, keep our hands clean and avoid crowds. If we do this, it will help control the pandemic,” said Dr. Pandey.
“If we strictly abide by and follow the public health standards, it will help make our life simpler and a bit easier like in other countries, but instead if we do not follow them, the rate of infection will increase at a fast pace, making our life more difficult,” warned Dr. Pandey.
