Economic prosperity to be achieved through agricultural industralisation: NCP leader Gautam

Lalitpur, Dec 17 (RSS):   
Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader Bamdev Gautam has said economic prosperity would be achieved sooner than later through agricultural industrialization.    
Leader Gautam said this while addressing at an interaction entitled "Multi-sector Interaction on Agricultural Development, Food Sovereignty and Climate Justice" here today. The interaction was organized by All Nepal Peasants Federation. Gautam is also the in-charge of the Federation.    
Expressing worry over the fragmentation of 3.1 million hectares of cultivable land into 30 million plots, he stressed on the need of pooling all the agricultural land in the country.    
Federation joint in-charge and former Minister, Sunil Kumar Manandhar said it was necessary to encourage 90 percent small farmers towards production.    
NCP central member and National Assembly member, Balram Prasad Banskota spoke of the need of building the capacity of the small farmers to combat the adverse effects of climate change in agriculture.    
Federation president Bhairab Regmi alleged that 60 percent of the subsidies provided to the farmers by the government was misused through corruption and underlined the need of formulating strong laws to curb the misuse of funds meant for subsidy.    
United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization representative Dr. Binod Shah said the objective of the FAO is to work for promoting food sovereignty, increasing food security and empowering the farmers.    
The suggestions to be collected after three days of deliberation at the interaction would be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.
