Kathmandu, July 18: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has received the largest number of complaints in its history of 30 years in the fiscal year 2019/2020.
The CIAA received a total of 24,890 complaints and finalised 16,586 cases in the fiscal year 2019/2020.
Likewise, the CIAA filed 441 cases in the Special Court and succeeded in 84.8 percent of cases.
In the fiscal year 2075\076, it had filed only 351 cases in Special Court and the success rate of that year was 88.5 per cent, a report published by the CIAA informed.
Out of 441 cases filed in the special court this year, 206 cases were related to corruption, 85 related to fake academic documents, 74 were on destruction of public property, 36 illegally earned property, 18 illegally earned benefits, 12 related to revenue leakage and 10 were others.
The CIAA has investigated 28 corruption cases of more than 10 million rupees.
The report shows in majority of the corruptions cases the government employees were involved.
In the fiscal year, the CIAA arrested 277 people red-handed.
Out of 277 people arrested red-handed, 208 were government officials, while two were special class officers and 14 were elected representatives and 55 were brokers.
In the same year, a highest number of first class non-gazetted officers were arrested red-handed.
The number of first class non-gazetted officer arrested red-handed stood at 69 and two special class officials were also arrested red-handed..
The CIAA has released five years Institutional Strategic Plan (76\77- 80\81) to make its actions more manageable, result-oriented and timely.
The CIAA has also conducted different trainings, visit and other programme to strengthen its ability, the report read.
Pradip Koirala, spokesperson of the CIAA, said the cases filed by the CIAA have illustrated the effective work of the authority even in the period of crisis.
