By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Apr. 15: Nepal Film and Cultural Academy has revealed that three Nepali films have been selected for the upcoming Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) 2021.

The fourth edition of NIFF is going to be held in Kathmandu from May 6 to 10 with the slogan ‘Celebration of stories from the world’. All the films will be based on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the Nepal Film and Cultural Academy (NFCA) had informed that 63 films from 31 countries had been selected for the NIFF. With the addition of three films from Nepal, the festival will now screen 66 films.

The NFCA had received 450 films from 52 countries to participate in the NIFF, but only 66 films were selected by the academy’s internal selection committee.

According to a press statement issued by the NFCA on Tuesday, the three Nepali films selected for the NIFF are Lato Kosero, Sarita 11 Barsha and Aama Khando.

“Among the three Nepali films participating in the festival, the best one will receive a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 along with trophies. Similarly, best director, writer, cinematographer, actor and actress will also receive trophies,” reads the statement.

Likewise, the academy informed that the outstanding international film will receive the Gautam Buddha Award with a cash prize of USD 1,500.
Similarly, an excellent feature film will receive the Don Quixote Award from the International Federation of Film Societies (IFSS).

The outstanding documentary in the festival will be receiving Mount Everest Award with a cash prize of USD 1,000; outstanding animation film will receive Manjushree Award with USD 750; the outstanding short film will receive Bagmati Award with USD 500.

The NFCA has also informed that all the films participating in the 4th NIFF will receive USD 500 and trophies.
