By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb. 3: Consumption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has increased in the mountainous region of Humla district. After the shortage of firewood due to continuous snowfall, the denizens have been using transported LPG in their everyday lives.

Madhu Basnet, a local said, “As it is difficult to find firewood aftermath the snowfall, I have started gas every day to cook food.”

A full gas cylinder, which is transported from Gamgadi of Mugu to Simikot by mules, costs Rs. 12,500 while it costs Rs. 1,350 in other places.

Lokendra Shahi, a businessman said that he had transported 40 cylinders of gas from mules on the first lot.

Shahi said that people buying gas cylinders had been increasing after the snowfall.

“I have been getting a lot of order for gas cylinders so I am preparing to bring more cylinders from Mugu,” he said.

Due to the snowfall, the number of people using gas has increased by five times, he added.

As continuous snowfall and lack of roadways have made transportation of empty cylinders expensive in Humla, the price of filled gas cylinders hiked by five times.
