Mustang, the district in the Himalayas, rich in sports infrastructure.

By Amrit Prasad Poudel, Beni, Sept. 27: Along with the richness of natural heritages, the Mustang district which lies in between the Himalayas is also rich in sports infrastructures.

Despite the district lacking enough infrastructures for development, due to the effort of the locals, Thak sports and cultural fests are organised annually in the district, thereby adding the sports infrastructures.

Mustang hosts eight sports clubs from the district headquarters, Jhomsom, to Ghansa. The Thak Sports and Culture Federation, formed by the joint coordination of the eight sports clubs, organise a week-long sports and culture fest each year on the first week of Ashoj.

New sports infrastructures are constructed each year for the fest. Covered hall volleyball ground and archery ground have been constructed in Ghansa, Lete, Taklung, Tukuche, Marpha, Syang, and Jomshom of the district.

The federation, which holds 50-year-old history and the Cultural Development Association in the district, conducts the fest every year alternatively.

Deepak Lalchan, secretary of the federation, said that the covered halls were constructed in the budget of more than Rs. 100 million. "The infrastructures for sports have been constructed with the help of aid collected from the locals, budget provided by the government authorities and foreign aid," said Lalchan.
