COVID-19 could get a lot worse in Nepal: PM Oli

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 7: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today said that the COVID-19 pandemic could possibly create a terrifying situation in Nepal.

Issuing a video message on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti, PM Oli said, "The COVID-19 pandemic has led the entire world to a terrifying phase. The number of infections and deaths due to COVID-19 has been increasing daily."

I extend heartfelt condolences over the lives lost due to COVID-19 and wish for speedy recovery of those infected by it, he said.

"The preventive measures opted by the government has become effective to check the spread of COVID-19 in Nepal. Thus, until now, the situation is not scary here," said the PM. "Although, there are signs that the pandemic could take a dreadful form in Nepal."

Requesting the denizens to stay alert, PM Oli said, "Coronavirus could hit Nepal hard if the nation is not alert and prepared on controlling and preventing the virus spread with everyone's unity and understanding."  

Extending best wishes on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti, PM Oli said that Lord Buddha's preachings were relevant amid the COVID-19 scare where nations all across the globe are longing for world peace.

"Few days ago, four innocent children lost their lives after a bomb went off. With deep sorrow, I express my heartfelt condolence to the family of the victims," said PM Oli.  

He also called on the people to mark Buddha Jayanti and show respect to the front line health workers and essential workers by lighting up lamps and candles in their respective homes at 7:00 PM today.
