Two years have passed since the incumbent government under the leadership of Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) KP Sharma Oli was formed. The stable and strong government headed by Prime Minister Oli was formed on February 15, 2018. During the period of two years, Nepal has made notable achievements on different fronts ranging from implementation of the federal republican constitution, infrastructure development, strengthening diplomatic relations with the neighbouring and other countries to establishing good governance. As a dedicated and visionary leader, Premier Oli has come forward with his vision of achieving the overarching goal of economic transformation in the country. With a national goal of "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali", the government has been working in various sectors such as building mega airport and road projects, hydropower, entrepreneurship development, employment generation, social security, among others. Since the beginning the government has focussed on establishing rule of law and good governance in the country. As corruption had been one of the major factors plaguing Nepal's entire development process for years, the government is committed to eliminating this anomaly. It is commendable that the government has adopted the policy of 'zero tolerance on corruption' in order to deal with this scourge.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota, speaking at a weekly press meet organised at his ministry to make the Cabinet decisions public on Thursday, said that various development programmes initiated by the government had started yielding the desired results. Of the different programmes initiated by the government in the last two years, some are in the stage of technical study. Minister Baskota said that the government was able to establish the rule of law. Nepal has climbed two steps up (59th place) in the rule of law index as prepared by the World Justice Project (WJP) in 2019. The country is the 113th least corrupt nation out of 180 countries as per the 2019 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) prepared by the Transparency International. In 2018, the country had ranked on the 124th position. Similarly, the nation has made progress in Happiness Index as well. It has climbed up three positions in this index. According to the report, the country got 4.91 in Happiness Index in 2019. Likewise, in doing business, the country ranked 94th among 190 economies worldwide as per the World Bank’s annual ratings of 2019. In 2018, the country had ranked 110th.

Although Nepal still has a long way to go for reducing trade deficit with different nations, the country has made headway in import substitution. With reforms in policies and amendments in numerous laws, a better investment climate has been created in the country. More foreign investors have started showing their investment commitments in various potential sectors. Besides, the security situation has also improved considerably. In the Global Peace Index, the country ranked as the 76th most peaceful country. Nepal improved its position by 12 points in 2019 as compared to rankings of the previous year. Another achievement is that the government has constructed some 8,000 houses under its People’s Housing Programme. It still has lots to do to meet the expectations of the nation and people.
