By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan. 30: Umakshankar Raybhar has been released after he deposited Rs. 25,000 bail today as demanded by the Supreme Court (SC) ruling.

A joint bench of SC justices Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha and Sapana Pradhan Malla had on Friday nullified the order of the Patan High Court that had slapped a bail of Rs. 7.5 million on Raybhar.

Raybhar was in prison since the High Court decision on Mar 1, 2021, for he could not deposit the bail as demanded by the court.

He was charged with tax evasion because his citizenship certificate was misused to establish different companies and thus evade tax.

A case was filed against him by the Department of Revenue Investigation for the same accusing him of tax evasion of Rs. 280 million.

The citizenship certificate of Raybhar was misused by Sarojkumar Mishra of Sarlahi to open companies and evade tax.
