By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Aug. 8: A new book containing special contributions from the filmmakers of both the old and new generations is all set to hit the bookstalls by upcoming Dashain.

Journalist Jiwan Kumar Parajuli has prepared the book based on the experiences of the representative characters which includes a critical interpretation of the Nepali film industry.

According to author Parajuli, the book is currently in the final stage of publication. “I have written the book to keep alive the unseen, unwritten and unheard history of Nepali film and to inform the new generation readers interested in Nepali film industry.”

The book covers the experiences of directors Pratap Subba, Tulsi Ghimire, Shambhu Pradhan, and Ugyen Chopel, composer Ranjit Gajmer, actors Tripti Nadkar, Niruta Singh, and Uttam Pradhan on Nepali films. These are the filmmakers who came to Nepal from India and got involved in the campaign of making milestone films.

Similarly, the presence of women directors in Nepali films, their problems, and the issues of gender equality are also included.

The book explores the establishment of the then Royal Nepal Film Corporation, the activities of the Film Institute, and its contribution to the history of Nepali cinema.

Parajuli claimed that the book contains some stories about the corporation which have not been published in other books yet.

The book also has separate chapters on actor Rajesh Hamal. While modeling in New Delhi, Parajuli has elaborated how Hamal was attracted to Nepali films.

Parajuli has spoken to more than 80 filmmakers in Nepal and India. He started writing the book after two and a half years of hard work.

“I think this book will be useful for preserving Nepali film documents and be of some relief to the shortage of books or study materials on Nepali films in the market,” said Parajuli, who is also the vice-president of the Film Journalist Association of Nepal.
