Kanta Dab Dab is a sitar, percussion and bass trio from Nepal with a unique outlook on the world music scene blending flavors of both eastern and western melodies. Their music serves as a treat for fans craving something new, with a tinge of traditional influences.
Their western structured themes, fast-electro beats, raga based melodies and groovy bass lines shape their compositions beyond conventional sounds currently heard amidst the local urban music scene. The trio released their debut self-titled album on 2016 and has been actively performing shows in and outside the country since.
Formed with the collaboration of three musical pioneers and old-time friends: Sunit Kansakar (sitar), Riju Tuladhar (bass) and Nikhil Tuladhar (percussion), the band was named after a saint who was a scary character for children. When the members were younger, he would wander around the community carrying a damaru alongside, the beats of which gave him the name Kanta Dab Dab.
Reminiscing the word itself sounded like a fun and groovy statement similar to their music thus they decided to adapt this name. Aside from this project all three members are quite busy in other similar projects and respected musical positions.
Their inspiration for this project fluctuates from Newari ragas, electronic, ambient, experimental music to alternation of famous folk tunes.
Soon, the band will be performing their set at Beers n' Cheers, Jhamsikhel, as a part of the series show, 'Pin Drop Violins' 9th edition. This December marks the one year anniversary of this chain of events.
Thus to make this celebration go further, the gig will feature a storyteller session, an intimate show and Q n A with the band. The tickets is priced Rs. 300 per entry and the show will start from 7 pm onwards, so see you there.
