NMA starts distributing relief materials to mountaineers

Kathmandu, Mar. 2: Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) started distributing relief materials from Monday under a project being implemented with financial support from the Nippon Foundation of Japan.
The association organised a commencement ceremony on Monday on its premises before the distribution. Director General of the Department of Tourism Mr. Taranath Adhikari, President of the NMA Mr. Santa Bir Lama started the process by handing over the packets of rice, lentil, salt and cooking oil to the mountaineers.

Two hundred and two mountaineers received the food materials on Monday, the first day of the distribution. Every mountaineer has received 50-kg rice, 5-kg lentil, 2-kg salt and 2-liter soybean oil.
The NMA said that it would continue distributing the relief materials throughout this week.

Three thousand mountaineers will be provided with the same amount of food materials as relief package under the project. Some 1600 mountaineers are selected for the first phase.
Among the 1600 mountaineers, 490 will receive relief materials from NMA secretariat, in Nagpokhari, Naxal while the remaining from Kapan.

The NMA had carried out a survey to select 3000 recipients from 11,500 NMA-registered mountaineer, who had also expressed their willingness to receive the materials from convenient places. The NMA is distributing the relief materials accordingly.

The distribution is set to resume on Wednesday after the Mahashivaratri break on Tuesday. Then, the distribution will be carried out in Kapan, said the NMA in its statement.
Program director of the Nippon Foundation Wada Makoto and Program Officer Masuda Remi also participated in the program through zoom.
