Kathmandu, March 19: Discussion took place between Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal and Director General of Asian Development Bank (ADB) for South Asia, Kenichi Yokoyama.

The secretariat of minister Bhusal informed that the discussion held in the ministry was concerned with the implementation of projects and the potential of new projects.

Minister Bhusal stated that the government has prioritized the areas of water resources and irrigation and she also said that ADB assistance is required in the agriculture sector. She also said that assistance for irrigation projects in agricultural land is necessary.

The Director General, Kenichi Yokoyama said that ADB has a significant contribution to energy and irrigation. He pointed out that challenges in the implementation of the projects should be taken into consideration.

He said that social and technical subjects should be addressed in the process of the development of the project. He believes that new projects should be identified in the future.

The discussion was participated by energy secretary Devendra Karki, water resource and irrigation secretary Sagar Kumar Rai, director of the irrigation department Sushil Chandra Acharya, Managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority Kulman Ghishing. On behalf of ADB, deputy directorate of ADB, South Asia Mohan Prakash and country director of ADB for Nepal Arnaud Cauchois were the participants.
