Okhaldhunga, Dec. 20: Construction of the Khijichandeshwori Airport has been completed. Work to construct the project had begun 13 years ago.
Construction works of the airport located at Khijidemba Rural Municipality had started almost 13 years ago after the then Okhaldhunga District Development Committee had allocated budget for the project in 2006.
However, the pace of construction work has taken place only after the government allocated budget for the project in 2016/17.
With the completion of the construction of the airport, a team of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal led by Parliamentarian Yagyaraj Sunuwar on Tuesday inspected the airport for a test flight.
Along with Sunuwar, engineer of the CAAN and project chief Binayak Bhattarai, Operating Manager of Tara Airlines Shant Prajapati, captain Santosh Shah, and chairman of Khijidemba Rural Municipality Bed Bahadur Rokka inspected the newly constructed airport.
Rokka said that the locals were expecting operation of flights to and from the airport at the earliest. The project was constructed with long-years effort, he added.
The airport inspecting team said that there would not be a problem for conducting a test flight at the airport if climate was favourable.
It is said that they were preparing to conduct a test flight within this week.
Citizens of west-north area of Khijidemba, Likhupike of Solukhumbu and Umakund and Likhu Tamakoshi rural municipalities of Ramechhap would directly benefit after the airport comes into operation.
The compulsion of the people to have a tedious travel for 15-18 hours a day will come to an end after airlines begin their regular flights to the newly constructed airport, said locals.
