By A Staff Reporter
Kathmandu, Jan. 3: Dhruba Bolakhe of Kavre, who was met at the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division on Friday, seemed very happy. He had a helmet of his motorcycle in his hand. He was waiting for someone there. After some time, the Chief of the Division, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Janak Bhattarai came close to speaking. When he saw Bhattarai, he was even happier. SSP Bhattarai looked at the document of his lost motorcycle.
"From now on, don't leave your bike wherever you find the place to park and without keeping handle-lock properly. Get in the habit of locking the handles," SSP Bhattarai was reminding Bolakhe at the Division Office, where he including half a dozen others were invited to claim their lost motorcycles.
Bolakhe also smiled and thanked SSP Bhattarai.
Bolakhe has been running a cold store in Kalopul and also used to stay there in a rented room. Saying that it would be easy to carry chickens, Bolakhe bought a 220cc Pulsar motorcycle on November 12.
The motorcycle was stolen in 45 days of its purchase. The motorcycle of Bolekhe was stolen from the rented room on the night of December 26 while he was sleeping that night keeping his bike's handle locked. Bolakhe said that his motorcycle (Bagmati Province 02-020 Pa 8779) was stolen. He would get up at 4 o'clock in the morning as he had to go to different places carrying chickens.
"I got up and went to the cold store. When I looked for the motorcycle, it was not in the house," said Bolakhe. "Then I called 100 immediately and informed the police."
He then went to a nearby police office to lodge a complaint. "No sooner had I lodged the compliant, I got information that the motorcycle was found in an abandoned condition in a forest of Narayantar in Bauddha," said Bolakhe. After that, Bolakhe did not even file a complaint with the police and went to a contact of traffic police office of Bauddha and reached the site to confirm the motorcycle was his.
"The motorcycle shown by the traffic police was his own after he showed the document to claim the property," said Bolakhe. Organising a function on Friday, Traffic Chief Bhattarai handed over the motorcycle to Bolakhe. The traffic police have handed over 22 stolen motorcycles to concerned motorcycle owners.
Stating that the thieves may have tried to take Bolakhe's motorcycle to Sindhupalchowk through Sankhu, SSP Bhattarai said, "But when the thieves couldn't do so they might have thrown it in the bush as they could not pass the bike from that route."
According to Bhattarai, the motorcycle was stolen by cutting the key wire and breaking the handle lock.
Everything else is fine with the bike, said Bhattarai.
110 petitions in 17 days
According to the Division, six to seven motorcycles are stolen daily. According to SSP Bhattarai, 110 motorcycle theft cases have been registered in the last 17 days. According to him, 39 motorcycles were found and handed over to the owners. Similarly, the traffic police have succeeded in arresting nine persons involved in motorcycle theft.
