'Fee issues in medical education will be resolved'

Kathmandu, Jan. 14: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Paudel said that the fee issues of medical education will be resolved soon.
Speaking to The Rising Nepal on Thursday, Minister Paudel said that he had called an all-party meeting at the ministry at 11 am on Friday regarding the issue.

“Officials from the Medical Education Commission, Nepal Medical Council, universities, student union representatives, private medical college owners alongside representatives from the agitated students and their family members have been called to the ministry,” said Paudel.

New batch of MBBS students at Kathmandu Medical College and Nobel Medical College have been protesting as they were prohibited to take classes for denying paying extra fees.
Students unions have also been supporting the protests.
Representatives from seven different student unions had also submitted a memorandum to Minister Paudel on Thursday.

Minister Paudel had also reached the Kathmandu Medical College to talk with the agitated students on Thursday and assured them of finding a solution.
The memorandum, which was earlier submitted to the Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand as well, requests the government to take action against the private medical college owners for stopping eligible students from taking classes.

The new batch of MBBS students have already submitted the fees set by the government. However, the ones who denied paying more as demanded by the colleges against the fee ceiling have been restricted from taking classes.

“The meeting on Friday will try to find a way out to end the issue of extra fees demanded by the medical education sector,” said Minister Paudel.
