Vendors sell Chaku, molasses, yams as Maghe Sankranti approaches (Photo Feature)

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan. 13: As Maghe Sankranti, the festival marked to welcome longer and warmer days in comparison to the month of Poush is on Thursday, January 14.

The festival is observed by eating various meals including sweets (laddus) made out of sesame seeds, Chaku (a dish made from concentrated sugarcane juice, jaggery, ghee, and nuts), sweet potatoes, and yams.

Every year, as Maghe Sankranti approaches, people in Kathmandu and elsewhere are seen buying different types of yams, sweet potatoes, and Chakus.

Here are some photos of the vendors selling yams, Chakus, and sweet potatoes for Maghe Sankranti, taken by our photojournalist Sujan Gurung.
