Arjun Kapoor opens up on relationship with Malaika Arora, dating 'someone older'

Agencies, May 22: That Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor and actor-turned-fitness enthusiast Malaika Arora are in a relationship is no secret.

The duo made their relationship public on Arjun's 34th birthday in 2019 via an Instagram post, sharing a loved-up photo, holding hands as they rang in the 'Ki and Ka' star's special day.

Now, in a recent interview, Arjun has opened up about dating 'someone older with a son from an earlier marriage'.

In an interview with Film Companion, Arjun said, "I don't try and be overtly talkative about my personal life, because I feel you should respect your partner, and there is a past there... And I've been in that situation where I've seen things pan out publicly and it's not always very nice, because there are kids affected."

He added, "I try and keep a respectful boundary. I do what she's comfortable with. And my career should not hinge on my relationship. So you have to create boundaries. I talk about it today because there is a certain respect and regard given to the relationship. We have given it time. I have tried to give it a certain amount of dignity by giving it space, and not having it be in your face."

About his marriage plans, Arjun had revealed in a live session with Bollywood Hungama last year, that it is not planned yet, but he won't hide it when it happens. "Not planned and not thought about it right now, but like I always say, I will not hide it,” Arjun had said.

Meanwhile, Arjun also addressed his differences with father Boney and why he stood by him when his second wife Sridevi passed away.

Stating that having to deal with his own relationship highs and lows, he understands and knows how people grow out of love and fall for someone else gradually, however, he will never be fine with him leaving his mom Mona Shourie Kapoor to be with Sridevi.

In his latest interview with Film Companion, Arjun said, "I can't say I'm okay with what my father did, because as a child I felt the repercussions, but I understand it. I can't say 'theek hai, hota hai (It's fine, this happens)', because I will always wonder. But when I rationalise it as an older person who's dealing with his own relationship's highs and lows, you understand."

On why he stood by his father in 2018 when Sridevi passed away, Arjun said, "My mother's upbringing came in my head. She would've told me to be by my father's side regardless of what obstacles we face, because of a choice he made where he fell in love. And I respect my father for falling in love again. Because love is complex. And we would be silly and churlish sitting here in 2021 saying that you only fall in love once. It's very Bollywood-ised. Love is complex, love is complicated, love isn't always about being in love."
