Japanese encephalitis still prevalent in 17% Nepali population

Doctors have said that of 17,875 Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Nepal, 3,067 cases, 17 per cent of the total number of cases, are confirmed as Japanese Encephalitis, JE in short.
Mortality rate from JE in Nepal is still 20-60 per cent of the total number of cases, according to Prof. Dr. Ajit Rayamajhi, head of the Pediatric Department at Kanti Children’s Hospital. Across Asia, the JE virus cases occur in around 69,000 individuals mostly to children every year, he said.
