Super Dordi ‘B’ Project completes tunneling of 5.1-km passage, production likely in 8 months

Drilling of a major tunnel under the Super Dordi ‘B’ Hydropower Project in Lamjung has been carried out. The under-construction 54-megawatt project based in Dhodheni of Dordi rural municipality-6 of Lamjung, the hilly district in Gandaki Province, reports the completion of drilling of the 5.1 kilometres underground passage.    

Lockdown will harm economy: Minister Sharma

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said that the country should not choose the path of lockdown under any circumstances. He made this remark while speaking at the second annual general meeting of the Confederation of Banks and Financial Institutions Nepal (CBFIN) held in the capital on Monday. “The new variant of coronavirus has spread rapidly in recent times, but now the path of lockdown should not be adopted,” he said.

Farmers urged to use chemical fertilizers wisely

The government has suggested the farmers use the available fertilizers sparingly, saying that there is a shortage of chemical fertilizers in the international market and excessive price hikes. The request has been made considering a likely shortage of chemical fertilizers as many countries that Nepal has been importing fertilizers from have said there is a shortage of raw material and hence difficult to provide as per the demand.    

Huaxin Cement starts test production

Huaxin Cement Narayani, a Nepali-Chinese joint venture cement factory, has started test production from its plant in Dhading from Saturday. The test production took place in the presence of the company officials and workers. Marking its 115th year of producing cements, Huaxin Cement celebrated with the ignition of its plant jointly by 115 workers.

Paddy production declines in Sudurpashchim

Panchthar farmer produces tomatoes for 16 months from same plants

Most of the farmers have been growing tomatoes for only four to five months from a plant. After that, they destroyed the plant after it stops yielding fruit. But Tika Nembang of Chillingden in Phalgunanda Rural Municipality-4, Panchtahr, has been growing tomatoes from the same plants for 16 consecutive months. He achieved the success to get yield from a tomato plant for 16 months after he started cultivating tomato with a plan to grow it from the same plants for 18 months.

Govt fixes minimum support price of sugarcane at Rs. 590 per quintal

The government has fixed the minimum support price of sugarcane at Rs. 590 per quintal for the current fiscal year. A Cabinet meeting on Wednesday approved the minimum farm gate price of sugarcane tabled by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies for approval, informed Minister for Communication of Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki while making the decisions public on Thursday.
