New Year 2078 B.S. has begun. We have said goodbye to 2077 B.S. and welcome the New Year that marks the beginning of many deeds. People have greeted the New Year with new hopes, zeal and positive vibes. Many have set their calendar with the clear goals to achieve during the year. Nepali people bade farewell to 2077 B.S. forgetting the bitter experiences of last year. They have also collected good memories of the past year to make them more pleasant in 2078 B.S.

President Bhandari’s Historic Visit

President Bidya Devi Bhandari paid an official visit to Bangladesh on 22-23 March 2021 at the invitation of Abdul Hamid, President of Bangladesh. She was special guest to attend the celebration of the birth centenary of Banglabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of Bangladesh.

At a time when the country is witnessing political polarisation and uncertainty, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has taken initiative to enhance the understanding and cooperation among the parties. On 16 March, she called an all-party meeting and urged the chiefs of all parties and former prime ministers to move ahead with unity. Her move comes as per the spirit of the constitution.

On 17 March 2018, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was formed after the unification of CPN-UML and CPN - Maoist Centre, eight months after the two parties made an initial agreement on party unity on May 2018. The unity was up to the mark till the issue of power sharing was not raised by some power monger leaders of both the parties.

As Nepal’s politics takes a new turn with the restoration of the House of Representatives (HoR), some leaders of the Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) have openly sought the support of India to find an alternative to KP Sharma Oli as Prime Minister.

SC Verdict & New Political Course

The Supreme Court has reinstated the House of Representative (HoR), which was dissolved on December 20, 2020. The Constitutional Bench of the SC led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana restored HoR saying the President's decision to dissolve the HoR on the recommendation of Prime Minister is unconstitutional.

Flippant Remarks Mustn't Hurt Ties

No rational mind can think that the BJP will form its party in Nepal. Such comments amount to the violation of Nepal’s sovereignty and sour the bilateral ties.
