Bamboo parasols, traditionally known as Chhatris, the age-old symbol of monsoon in the Terai region are increasingly becoming rare. Once a ubiquitous item, Chhatris have today taken a backseat to their more popular cousin, umbrellas. Created with heavier waterproof materials such as polyester and nylon, the modern-day umbrellas have come to be a much more comfortable alternative. While Chhatris are traditionally worn as caps, umbrellas have a curved handle to allow for easy grip.

Finance Ministry okays Rs. 7.72 bn for HoR polls

The Ministry of Finance has agreed to spend up to Rs. 7.72 billion for the election of the House of Representatives (HoR). The Ministry has given authority to Election Commission Nepal to spend that amount for the election, according to a press statement released by the ministry.

India lifts ban on palm oil import

The import restriction on refined palm oil imposed by India has been lifted. India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a statement on Wednesday that the ban on refined palm oil had been lifted until December 31, this year. India has also reduced customs duties on palm oil imports by 10 per cent.

Floods, landslides continue to cause havoc
