High alert adopted against omicron variant at border transit point

High vigilance has been adopted at the Triveni customs bordering India, the District Administration Office said. Chief District Officer Manamaya Bhattarai Pangeni said high alertness along with health awareness has been adopted at the border transit in this connection.

Qualitative rise in electricity demand, expected to reach 2K megawatts by coming mid-July

Electricity demand capacity both in terms of megawatts and energy units is found increasing. For instance, the peak demand in the system on December 13 was 1,539 megawatts whereas the peak demand on the same day last year was 1,217 megawatts – an increase of 322 megawatts. On this basis, the peak demand for electricity has increased by 26.5 per cent this year compared to the demand on the same date last year.

Province 1 observing 'Traffic Week' amid increasing road fatalities 

Road fatalities have increased in Province 1. The figure of road fatalities in the previous fiscal year, 2020-21 was 444 against 332 in the FY, 2019/20 and 313 in the FY, 2018/19, according to data with the province police.   

Water supply in Kathmandu Valley less than one third of demand

The existing water supply in the Kathmandu Valley is less than one-third of the demand. The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) distributes around 130 million litres of water on a daily basis, despite the demand of around 430 million litres.

Coronavirus infection cases increasing in Province 2   

The coronavirus infection rate which was stable lately has again started increasing in Province 2. It had decreased by the second week of this month until it started going up again, the Public Health Office here said, urging people to take precaution.
